From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
As a schoolgirl I won a few informal spelling bees in class. I was never of the caliber of those kids you see competing in the National Spelling Bee (they throw around words that I'm still not sure are real) but I do get a bit distracted by misspellings and bad punctuation in the material I read. One or two I can forgive but when they keep on coming I start noticing the errors and lose track of what the material has to say.
Beautiful fonts do not make misspelled words look nicer.

It can be especially bad online although I try not to let it get to me as much in less formal venues such as forums, Facebook postings, and blogs. I know that sometimes we all get in a hurry and proofreading isn't always high priority in certain situations (which doesn't make reading the material any easier). But when I see obvious and easily avoidable spelling and punctuation errors in print I can't help feeling just a bit irritated at the author or the editor or the publisher. Someone should have caught those mistakes somewhere along the line. And those errors seem to be more and more prevalent these days. Have you noticed that or am I being too picky? Is it a lack of proper proofreading or is spelling and punctuation less important to today's writers and readers? Feel free to sound off on our Facebook page.

OK, that was a bit of a long rant. I'll stop myself now before I really get on a roll. Enjoy reading about the apostrophe and spelling rules, below.

Redundancy: Omitting the Apostrophe
Do you avoid apostrophes by avoiding contractions and certain possessives? That's one way to not have to worry about whether you used them correctly or not.

Top Spelling Rules
"Spelling rules are a bit like weather forecasts: we may use them, but we really can't depend on them to be right 100% of the time." But these rules from Guide Richard Nordquist can help you get it right more often. I just saw the i before e issue in a newscast recently. I can't recall the specifics, perhaps because I was distracted by the "recieve" in the middle of the screen.

Design & Decorate With Wall Stickers
I've thought about doing this many times but never have actually taken the plunge.
