From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
Today's newsletter is brought to you by the letter C (Spent time with my granddaughter last week watching educational TV. Does it show?)

A copywriter can copy the copy he writes by making a carbon copy using carbon paper. You can also send a carbon copy by email, sort of. You may think you know what a copywriter does and what copy means but dig deeper to find their connection with desktop publishing. And carbon paper? Some of you may never have actually used it but it's still in use even in these post-typewriter days.

Certification
Certification may or may not be a path you want to pursue as a designer but some employers may consider it a plus. I was just reading recently about some new free online courses (not OpenCourseWare) that MIT will be offering soon (MIT Announces Platform for Free Online Courses). For those that do well, these courses can include certification. Now I don't know if any of these courses will include anything design or desktop publishing related but it's certainly something to keep an eye on. In the meantime, check out this non-certification OpenCourseWare offering from MIT on Digital Typography.

Creativity
Can you learn to be more creative? Perhaps. Or, maybe what various creativity exercises do is simply help you bring out, express, and kickstart your natural creativity. In design -- for personal or professional projects -- creativity is certainly good. For more creative inspiration you may want to practice these 13 Rules for Realizing Your Creative Vision. Read it and see if the accompanying infographic helps you visualize the rules even better.
