From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
After much hair-pulling due to an uncooperative desktop printer most of my daughter Lyla's graduation announcements have been mailed out. Yay! At some point when I can once again bear to even open up that file I'll put up something on the site about how we designed and created the announcement/invites. But for now I leave with you with this bit of "do as I say, not as I do" advice - start weeks and months earlier than you think you need to start.

Present Your Best Skills: Brush Up on Presentation Graphics
If you're looking for an edge as a job seeker, one way is to master the art of the presentation. Yes, learn PowerPoint or other software. But just as important, learn how to create attractive and effective presentations. Becoming a presentations graphics expert (or at least highly proficient) can also be a way to expand your freelance design business and maybe even get better grades at school by making your slide show the best in class.

Spell Check!
We've received some great comments to last week's blog about a journalism school ditching spelling tests. A small sampling:
"Bring back spelling bees and spelling tests. We need to impress on our young writers that storytelling is more effective if we are precise." Stan
"How can people communicate accurately and clearly with each other if their work contains misspelled words? How can anyone claim their work is professional if it is riddled with misspellings (and with ungrammatical sentences)?" BadgerBabe
"Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and usage all communicate; and what they communicate often says more about the author than the topic under discussion." W.D.
