Top Picks - DLP Rear Projection Televisions  from your  Home Theater  Guide
Although Rear Projection Televisions have fallen out of favor due to the massive popularity of LCD and Plasma Televisions, they still provide the consumer with the largest screen image for the price of any TV models in use. Currently, Mitsubishi is the only company actively making rear projection televisions for the U.S. market. All these sets utilize DLP technology and are also 3D-ready (in fact, most DLP sets made from 2007 to now have been 3D ready). So, if you are tired of watching that "tiny" 27-inch TV, why not go "all the way" and buy a really big DLP rear projection television? Check out my favorite picks.

1) Mitsubishi L65-A90 LaserVue DLP Television
Take a DLP projection television and, instead of using a traditional light source to produce the viewable image on the screen, employ laser technology for the task. The result: Excellent color reproduction and contrast, as well as a light source that doesn't wear out. Also, even though this is not a true flat panel television, the set is so thin, it can even be wall-mounted. The Mitsubishi 65-inch L65-A90 not only features LaserVue technology, but is also 120Hz 3D-ready (with optional accessory processor and glasses), offers 1080p native resolution, and four HDMI inputs. I have seen the prototype of this set both at both the CES and CEDIA trade shows this past year, and it is impressive. Check out the LaserVue Microsite.

2) Mitsubishi WD-82837 82-inch DLP Projection TV
If you like it big, here is the largest screen size available in a DLP Rear Projection TV. The Mitsubishi WD-82837, with its 82-inch, 16x9, screen features a native pixel resolution of 1920x1080 and 1080p upscaling. Other features include an HDTV Tuner (ATSC and QAM), 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs, and a USB input for display of digital photos or flash drive music file access. Additional bonuses include: 3D viewing-ready, and 120Hz refresh rate. If you like your Television really big, and with lots of connections, check this one out. You won't find an LCD or Plasma Television in this screen size, and if you do, it would not be anywhere near the price of this Mitsubishi DLP projection set. For full details, download the User Manual.

3) Mitsubishi WD-73737 73-inch DLP Projection TV
The Mitsubishi WD-73737, with its 73-inch, 16x9, screen, is one of the largest DLP-based projection televisions. Featuring a native pixel resolution of 1920x1080 and 1080p upscaling, this set delivers the detail to fill its large screen. Other features include an HDTV Tuner (ATSC and QAM), and 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs. There is even a set of side mounted Component Video Inputs. Additional bonuses include: 3D viewing-ready, and 120Hz refresh rate. Also, this set has a decent built-in speaker system if you prefer not to have an external sound system. If you like your Television really big, but don't want to pay the big bucks, check out the Mitsubishi WD-73737. For full details, download the User Manual.
