From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
Tomorrow will be the 15th birthday I've celebrated while being your About.com Guide to Desktop Publishing. OK, to be precise the first few birthdays were when we were known as The Mining Company -- how many of you have been with us that long? Help celebrate by sharing with me and others your favorite books on graphic design, desktop publishing, typography, creative printing, and related topics. Old classics or new titles, tell us about the books that inspired you, helped you, and that you'd recommend to others. What is your must-have book?

And join me on Facebook too. You can write on my Wall and share tips, ask questions, and post pictures of some of the cool things I know you all are out there creating.

Bookmark Marketing
Do you just stick a piece of torn paper between the pages or dogear the corners (gasp!) to mark your place in a book? There's a better way for you and for potential customers. Bookmark This!

Do You Know These Parts of a Book?
DON'T READ THIS... yet. First, pick up a few books. Any books you have sitting around you. How many distinct sections can you identify? Do all the books have the same parts? NOW read about these parts of a book to learn about what you might have missed.

Make a Book or Book Accessories as Gifts
Bookmarks, book plates, and custom book covers you make yourself can be better gifts than the store-bought variety. Or, write a book.
