| Scrubs or Medical Uniforms
Before scrubs, or medical uniforms were made in various colors with a variety of patterns and themes, they were all white, both the short sleeved shirt and the drawstring pants. There did not seem to be a dress code for surgeons before white uniforms became the normal wear of surgeons. Many surgeons wore butcher's apron and since sanitation, germs, and the spread of disease was unknown, the aprons weren't changed between patients.
