From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
Another Monday. Another chance to dig into the software we love (or hate). Would really like to hear from the PagePlus fans this week. I'm calling you guys out this week and putting you on the spot. Inquiring minds want to know, What's So Great About Serif PagePlus? (any version).

You can find me on Twitter and Facebook. And if you use Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Stumbleupon, and other social/sharing sites, please Share About.com Desktop Publishing with your family, friends, and fans.

What's So Great About Serif PagePlus?
Earlier this year there was big push from Serif PagePlus users during voting for the 2010 About.com Reader's Choice Awards. PagePlus took top honors in three of our main desktop publishing software categories beating out Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, and others for best software for graphic designers. It came out on top as best software for business professionals over Microsoft Publisher and won over both major Broderbund titles as best software for personal projects. From time to time we hear more from these loyal PagePlus users who sing its praises. Now, how about all you PagePlus fans give us the inside scoop on why you love this program. Write a Review.

  • Do you use PagePlus X4 or an earlier version?Answer a few easy questions about its ease of use, strengths, weaknesses, and how you use the software.
  • Using the free Starter Edition of PagePlus? Tell us about it here (or any other free desktop publishing software you use).
Tell others why you think Serif PagePlus deserved to be voted the best. And of course, if you tried PagePlus but moved on to other programs, we'd love to hear from you too. Will PagePlus do as well next year? We'll be taking nominations for the 2011 About.com Reader's Choice Awards beginning in mid-January 2011. Stay tuned.

The Print Shop is Backsliding
One reader/reviewer says, "All things take time to learn. Once you learn it is easy." The question is how long does it take to learn it? And how long does it take Broderbund to undo all that learning? We've got a positive review of The Print Shop 23 even though some shortcomings are noted. However, Sandi is less than enthusiastic about the newest incarnation of an old favorite. She says features it once had are suddenly gone. The program has come a long way from its DOS days (I used it back then) but has it hit a wall? Are you a happy or unhappy user of The Print Shop from Broderbund? Would love to hear your opinion.

Which Version Is It?
When Broderbund upgraded/changed their two main desktop publishing programs they skipped from the teens and twenties all the way back to 2.0. As if the standard/deluxe/professional and specialty editions weren't confusing enough! Anyway, to clarify this, the version jump goes like this:
PrintMaster 18 to 2.0 to 2011
The Print Shop 23 to 2.0
And, the 2.0/2011 editions are now Mac-compatible too.
