From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
Welcome to another Thursday morning edition of the About.com Desktop Publishing newsletter to be enjoyed any time of day or night. I'm putting hyphens, periods, exclamation marks, and their kin in the spotlight while trying real hard not to make any glaring punctuation errors. Spot any? Go ahead and laugh, point, or giggle to yourself. I did it just to see if you were paying attention (really, honest I did). Punctuation is only part of what you'll find in today's newsletter.

Want to share my mistakes or the good info with friends on Twitter, Facebook, Digg, and elsewhere? Look for the Share link at the end of blog posts or in the upper right (near Search) on most other pages. I'm thanking you in advance for sharing: Thank you!

Softening Those Hyphens: H&J on the Web
In print a lot of attention is paid to line endings. We want to abolish the widows and orphans (typographically speaking that is) and we like nice not-too-ragged alignment -- sometimes even perfectly lined up on both sides. Hyphenation and Justification (H&J) is one way to accomplish neat line endings. But what about H&J for Web pages?

Dot Dot Dot (It's Not Morse Code)
Three little dots... indicate an omission, an interruption, or hesitation. Don't hesitate to fine-tune your use of the ellipsis.

Getting the Hang of Hanging Your Punctuation
Why? It's an illusion that makes text look neater. Learn why and how to use hanging punctuation.

What Do You Put After a Period?
Everyone has an opinion. Some think that worrying about a little thing like spacing after ending punctuation is silly. Others are passionate about just how many spaces we use. My opinion is clear in this piece: Use One Space Between Sentences but browsing the reader responses you can see that not all agree.
