| | Can you fit a square peg into a round hole? Sure, if the hole is big enough. Come go round and round with me on Twitter or let's face off on Facebook. That doesn't even make sense, does it? I'll blame it on the weather. What does make sense is this week's round up of shapes, colors, and reader submissions. | | Circling Around the Page I like circles. They crop up frequently in my art and other design projects. In this revamp of a graphic design basics class I've revisited using circles. There's also a new gallery that pulls from tutorials, user-submitted makeovers, and my own work to show some of the ways to use circles and circular shapes. Visit the circles gallery and count the circles. | Go Ahead, Be Square Do you think of square as old-fashioned, conventional, or boring? Square is also familiar and comforting. (Is it too old-fashioned to say 'It's hip to be square?') Square is stable. It's a lot easier to stack a bunch of square boxes than a bunch of bowling balls. When we design pieces for paper or for screen, we're usually working inside a square shape (including rectangles). You're probably quite familiar with using squares. But it never hurts to revisit the familiar. Explore using squares and the squares gallery. | Elements of Design Can you identify each element in your own designs?
