| Last week I mentioned on Facebook a quote spotted on Twitter that I found amusing: With the rise of e-readers, we need new phrases like "that's a real button pusher" or "that's a real screen swiper" to describe good books. (tonys3kur3). I like ebooks. But books on paper are still cool too. And what do both kinds of books have in common? Typography! Do you share good books with friends? Share this site too. Look for the Share link at the end of blog posts or in the upper right (near Search) on most other pages. Thanks for sharing. | |
What Is Your Favorite Typography Book? What are the books you read and cherish on typography or using fonts? From beautiful to look at coffee table books to timelines of typographic history to how-to books on using digital type to font specimen books, there are hundreds of classic and new titles on typography and fonts. We want to hear your recommendations. And if you think a particular title is over-rated or under appreciated, tell us why. |
The Non-Designer's Type Book This is not a new book. It's a classic on using type. This review was written for the 1998 edition but there's an even newer one (2005). Both are good. Do you have a copy of either one? Submit your review. |
In Case You Missed It: The Big Book of Font Combinations I reviewed the PDF but there's also a print edition coming out. This is not for typography pros who just instinctively know what fonts look good together. This is for everyone else who struggles a bit with finding the perfect pairings. |
Communication Through Words and Pictures Words and pictures aren't used just in books. Anything we design communicates with one or the other or both. This discussion of writing and drawing skills for designers began in 2006. Have things changed significantly in the past few years? What do you consider essential skills for designers today? Share your thoughts. |
